This 6-week *Junior Level* course will provide students with a peek into the world of a professional Fashion Designer! 

Starting ages 8 and up, Fashion Design Online is a course created by a Parsons School of Design Alumna, and is a perfect fit for students who:

  • Have a creative flair and a deep interest in the intricacies of fashion design
  • Hope to someday attend a design school such as Parsons, RISD, MassArt, etc.
  • Love drawing, collaging, crafting and want to challenge themselves creatively
  • Are excited by a course that is half-theory, half-practice, and wholly fun!

    This is a structured course with *optional homework* and students will be given a detailed syllabus at the beginning of the course, the basic outline is as follows:

    Session 1: Ideation, we will begin by discussing the importance of mood boards for the creative process and gathering inspiration and play the "Why Do We Like?" game.
     
    Session 2: Ideation Cont'd, we will use class time to learn fashion vocabulary, and discuss how professional mood boards are put together. There will be a lecture/powerpoint and discussion about current Fashion Week trends and designers.
     
    Session 3: Translation, we will begin sketching looks. There will be a demo of how to sketch a croqui from scratch, and how to properly put together a technical flat sketch time permitted.
     
    Session 4: Translation Cont'd, we will use class time to talk about what "collections" are and understand how designers put them together. There will be a sketching exercise to help students understand how to put together a collection of their own.
     
    Session 5: Creation, we will use class time to discuss how to translate one of our sketches in our collections into a "garment" that will be created out of found materials. Time permitting we will begin working on the project. The garment may be wearable or an art piece.
     
    Session 6: Creation Cont'd, the final class will allow for time for the students to ask questions and finish their final project, if the final project is complete there will be a show-and-tell and overview of the student's designer's statements.

    The Fashion Design Course meets:
    Mondays 3.30-5.00pm
    Tuesdays 3:30 - 5:00pm 
    Wednesdays 3.30-5.00pm

    Each session is $225 and lasts 6-weeks with the *fixed* start date, unfortunately we cannot provide any makeup classes.
